About The Position

The Teaching Assistant will work during the regular early college school day (7 am to 3 pm), providing in-person classroom support during designated online course blocks. Hours will align with student schedules and peak times for online coursework, including assistance with course navigation, assignments, and communication with instructors.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in working with adolescents in an educational setting including students with special needs.
  • Ability to modulate the behaviors in order to support an environment conducive to education.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, and reach above shoulders and twist.
  • Will frequently be required to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance.
  • Will occasionally be required to lift over 25 lbs. with assistance.
  • May be exposed to the following hazards: mechanical, electrical, blood and body fluids.
  • May be exposed to verbal or physical outbursts from students.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teachers by working individually with students identified by the teacher as needing individual, academic or behavioral assistance/supervision.
  • Supervises students who are working independently outside of the classroom environment, i.e., study room, test room, etc.
  • Escorts students to classes as directed.
  • Monitors classes during teacher absence.
  • Duplicates instructional materials.
  • Answers phone in a courteous and timely manner directing caller appropriately and taking accurate messages.
  • Remains aware of an individual student’s abilities, reviewing intake information and paperwork, Understands the stages of growth and development for the ages of the students and responds to behaviors and needs based upon that knowledge.
  • Responsible for adhering to established hospital/department policies and procedures.
  • Provides for the safety, security and confidential treatment of students, parents, guests and staff.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the student’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each student’s requirements relative to age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
