About The Position

The Department of Philosophy at Duquesne University seeks applicants for a full-time non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professorship, to begin in August 2026. Appointment is for one year (nine-month contract), renewable with opportunities for advancement but not application for tenure. Position includes salary, benefits, office space, and conference travel funding. Expected teaching load is 4/4 with two preparations per semester. Primary responsibilities will be Introduction to Ethical Reasoning as well as courses in our suite of introductory-level philosophy classes: Reality & Illusion, Who I Am, Democracy & Justice, and Global Thought. These classes run in multiple sections every semester and serve students across the university through Duquesne's Bridges Common Learning Experience general education curriculum. All courses will be face-to-face (i.e., no online teaching). The mission of the Duquesne University Department of Philosophy is to be a dynamic and productive department of scholars and teachers dedicated to undergraduate and graduate teaching, academic research, and professional training for future philosophers. We provide an academically rigorous, critical, intellectually diverse department committed to teaching and research in Continental philosophy and the history of philosophy. We offer BA, MA, and PhD degrees. The McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts prepares students for productive and creative lives of service in a rapidly changing world. The College teaches students to think, write and speak clearly and critically so they can seek truth about God, themselves and society and contribute to their families, communities, businesses and professions. Requirements

  • PhD in Philosophy in hand by start date and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Alternately, the applicants may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the Mission of the University and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.
