About The Position

The School of Music in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada seeks a dedicated educator for the position of Teaching Assistant Professor/Lecturer of Music Theory. The typical teaching load for this position is 4-4 and the primary teaching responsibilities include: overseeing the undergraduate Music Theory and Aural Skills curriculum; teaching courses in undergraduate music theory, which may include post-tonal theory, form and analysis, and counterpoint; graduate theory seminars; with other assignments based on expertise as assigned by the School Director. The successful candidate is expected to foster a culture of shared excellence by fulfilling service roles to include graduate committee involvement, collaborating within the School of Music, engaging in recruitment efforts, and supporting regional public schools. The position will begin on July 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • PhD in Music Theory or related field, or ABD with completion by August 1, 2026 for Teaching Assistant Professor
  • MA n Music Theory or related field for Lecturer
  • Evidence of a multifaceted background in theory pedagogy
  • A commitment to excellence in teaching and service
  • A commitment to community, collaboration, and program building
