About the Program Miami University’s music program is undergoing exciting growth, including the launch of a Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry with tracks in Music Production and Music Business. The Department of Music is an integral part of the College of Creative Arts. The College of Creative Arts at Miami University is a dynamic, interdisciplinary community encompassing departments in art, architecture and interior design, emerging technology in business and design, music, and theatre, alongside a vibrant ecosystem of centers and institutes including the Institute for Innovation in Arts and Design, Fashion Institute, Armstrong Institute for Emerging Technology, and the Center for Community Engagement in Over-the-Rhine (Cincinnati), as well as the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum and a nationally recognized Performing Arts Series. The college takes an innovative, career-focused approach that integrates emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, and experiential learning. Through industry partnerships and cross-disciplinary collaboration, CCA prepares graduates to lead in the creative industries.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Music Theory or Composition (completed by the start date of appointment)

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated success teaching music theory at the college level
  • Experience with curriculum development or coordination
  • A student-centered approach to teaching and mentoring

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory and related areas
  • Coordinate and develop the music theory curriculum, ensuring coherence, innovation, and alignment with program goals
  • Advise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students
  • Contribute actively to departmental, divisional, and university service
