About The Position

A teaching professor (assistant/associate) contributes to the CSD graduate and undergraduate program with a strong record of teaching, classroom innovation and student interactions. They are expected to independently create and redesign a range of courses in their field of expertise, being able to assess student performance and learning outcomes, and to provide formal or informal advising on students’ academic and career directions. Contributions in the scholarship of teaching and learning and supervision of student employees delivering instruction (Teaching Assistant) are part of this role as well as fostering collaboration with faculty and staff in the development of teaching strategies. Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukee campus. Anticipated start date will be the fall 2026 semester (August 2026).

Requirements

  • A terminal academic degree (PhD or EdD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field, or ABD with anticipated completion date prior to start of employment.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience in the field of communication sciences and disorders (clinically and/or academically) with relevant experience in student mentorship
  • Evidence of one year of teaching experience (classroom or clinical supervision)

Nice To Haves

  • ASHA CCC-SLP certification (holding the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC))
  • PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders (COMSDIS)
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations
  • Expertise particularly in one or more of the following areas: Teaching, clinical and/or research expertise in one or more of these areas is preferred: Voice, Fluency, Articulation & Phonological disorders, Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
  • Additional expertise areas that may also be considered: Expertise in autism, counseling, child language disorder, literacy, or other CSD-related areas.
  • Evidence of continued growth toward outstanding teaching (as evidenced through teaching evaluation summaries)
  • Interest in developing a strong didactic philosophy focused on student-centered learning, (evidenced by continuing education on this topic, teaching evaluation summaries)
  • Experience in academic program review or accreditation and/or graduate admissions (evidenced by a record of participation, roles and/or responsibilities in those activities)

Responsibilities

  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
