About the Opportunity The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. Strong candidates for this position will have the expertise, knowledge, and skills to build their research, pedagogy, and curriculum in ways that reflect and enhance this commitment. The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University seeks to fill a non-tenure-track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor. We are particularly interested in candidates with the expertise to teach courses in the areas of psychology, security, and law in addition to more general criminal justice offerings. Housed within the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, SCCJ brings together more than 20 research-oriented scholars and distinguished practitioners on the cutting edge of interdisciplinary research and criminal justice policy. The school has a highly ranked PhD program, a quickly growing master’s program, and a unique undergraduate program comprised of a large number of combined majors with other units including psychology, political science, business, computer science and cybersecurity, and sociology. This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year. This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. The position will be on Northeastern’s Boston campus.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Criminology or a related field in hand by the employment start date is required.
  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.
  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Full Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Full Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.
  • Applicants should submit a cover letter that addresses their interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, and names and contact information for at least three professional references from whom letters of reference can be solicited as needed.
  • The teaching statement should summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, and what you would like to teach at Northeastern.
  • Please highlight any pedagogical innovations, experiential learning activities, or strategies for teaching a global student population.
