About The Position

Provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using instructional techniques which meet the needs of all students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings and activities. Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment. Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Ability to work flexible schedules Evenings/Nights Outside of normal business hours Weekends ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the School Improvement Plan. Plans and prepares lessons, assignments, and instructional materials. Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development. Based on assignment, maintains the pool and in some cases the operation of the pool as per regulations established by Anne Arundel County Health Department and/or pool to which assigned. Prepares, administers and analyzes data from evaluations and assessments, and records results through progress monitoring and/or System regulations. Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies as it relates to aquatics and/or physical education in the delivery of quality teaching and learning to students in specialty programs. Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques. Maintains order and discipline conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, environment, equipment, materials and facilities. Creates a learning environment that provides for student involvement in the learning/service process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives/IEP goals. Confers with parents and students regarding progress of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Regulation. Attends and actively participates in System/staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods. May serve on special committees. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers as appropriate. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools, if assigned to Virtual Academy required.
  • Knowledge of school organization; goals and objectives; curriculum; teaching techniques; current trends, research and materials of instruction in field of specialization.
  • Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents and community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Crisis intervention may require participating in physical restraints.
  • Ability to demonstrate techniques necessary to instruct students in area of assignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to travel to/from Maryland Sites as necessary at the expense of the employee is required for in-person appearances at various intervals throughout the duration of the school year.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
  • If assigned to bilingual program, bilingual and biliterate in targeted language native or near native required.
  • Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Based on assignment, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification issued by American Heart Association, Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required.
  • Based on assignment, First Aid Certification issued by American Heart Association, Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required.
  • Based on assignment, Lifeguard Certification issued by American Red Cross licensed training provider required.
  • Based on assignment, Pool Operator License issued by Anne Arundel County Department of Health required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
