About The Position

The Regional Apprenticeship Pathways (RAP) Construction Workforce Specialist engages, inspires, and prepares construction pre-apprentices by developing their foundational employability tools and skills through career exploration, résumé and portfolio development, interview preparation, and other professional readiness learning experiences that support informed career decision-making. Through rich and relevant instruction, industry engagement, and individualized coaching, the Specialist prepares each pre-apprentice to meet high standards and secure employment in the construction trades upon graduation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of leadership in construction trades or a related field, including hiring, supervision, and workforce development, or equivalent education, endorsements, certifications, and experience that meet the requirements of the position.
  • Experience providing construction workplace readiness instruction and on-the-job coaching, supported by hands-on familiarity with construction tools.
  • Able to plan and deliver engaging lessons on career exploration, portfolio and résumé development, construction trades entry requirements, and interview preparation.
  • Strong commitment to preparing pre-apprentices for success in the construction industry by connecting pre-apprentices with construction job shadows, internships, and full-time career opportunities, demonstrated by measurable outcomes.
  • Proven capability in relationship-building and professional communication skills.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance and proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later).
  • Ability to meet required district clearances, immunization, and training requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of and comfort engaging in hands-on work with construction tools and equipment.

  • Familiarity with various union and merit construction employment processes preferred.
  • Current construction industry relationships preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a learning environment that motivates pre-apprentices to engage and demonstrate enthusiasm for learning.
  • Model, uphold, and enforce RAP behavioral expectations while monitoring student safety to maintain an orderly, productive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate strong student management while leading aspiring tradespeople through career exploration and preparation experiences both in and out of the classroom setting.
  • Support pre-apprentices in meeting Washington State Apprenticeship & Training Council minimum qualifications through individualized goal setting, career-path planning, soft-skills coaching, and guidance in securing entry-level construction employment.
  • Provide individualized coaching on résumés, portfolios, cover letters, applications, and interview preparation.
  • Deliver district-adopted curriculum lessons on employability skills, workplace expectations, professional communication, and career readiness while documenting student progress and maintaining accurate grading records.
  • Build rapport with staff, pre-apprentices, parents, and industry partners through regular professional interactions.
  • Direct and support visiting trade partners, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student aides.
  • Maintain high levels of organization, data-collection systems, consistent proactive communication, follow-through, vision, and flexibility while shaping a developing role.
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct, all district policies, and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Cultivate, build, and maintain relationships with both new and current union partners, contractors, and industry organizations.
  • Coordinate internships, externships, job shadows, and employment opportunities.
  • Stay current on apprenticeship training standards, application timelines, and upcoming apprenticeship enrollment opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to collaboration by working with RAP partners to promote RAP, contribute during meetings, and effectively execute program goals aligned with RAP’s mission and vision.
  • Organize mock interviews, field trips, partner visits, and RAP program career experience.
  • Maintain accurate records of Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs) and RAP Certificates.
  • Serve as the initial and primary point of contact for prospective partners and employers.
  • Work as a team member to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Report incidents (child abuse, fights, substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of pre-apprentices, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to the education code and district and school policies.
  • Visit partner schools to recruit prospective pre-apprentices.
  • Represent and promote RAP at school and community events.
  • Track alumni outcomes and maintain ongoing communication with graduates.
