Position Overview: Deliver research-based teaching techniques to address the diverse academic and functional needs of a K-12 caseload of students with visual impairments. Modify and adapt instructional materials—including large print, Braille, and digital formats—to ensure students can fully access the general education curriculum. Implement and support the use of specialized tools such as video magnifiers, screen readers, and refreshable Braille displays. Partner daily with families, classroom teachers, and support personnel to foster an inclusive environment that promotes overall student progress and self-advocacy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Blind or Visually Impaired Endorsement (Required)
  • Proficiency in Unified English Braille (UEB) and experience with assistive technology
  • Prior experience as a TVI or in a K-12 setting supporting students with visual impairments
