Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit. FLSA: Exempt Qualifications At the time of the application, candidate must hold or be eligible for a current Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired Certification. Dual certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist is preferred. Minimum of bachelor’s degree and qualification for MSDE TVI certification required, with the ability to obtain certification in special education. General knowledge of visual impairments, including causes, manifestations, and adaptations. Knowledge of special education principles specific to visual impairment and its impacts, practices, and procedures, including developing and writing IEP's, 504 Accommodation Plans, and performing appropriate teaching techniques. Some knowledge of medical disorders such as seizures or restrictions; adaptive technology, alternate modes of communication; and / or orthopedic impairment. Knowledge of the UEB and Nemeth braille codes, and ability to research and apply all braille codes if needed in a student's curriculum. Must be able to drive from one location to another in order to provide services to students.
