About The Position

The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K-XII, seeks a Teacher of Physical Education for a full-time, ongoing position beginning August 2026. Requirements

  • have a bachelor’s degree in the subject area, graduate degree in Physical Education preferred
  • have at least three years of experience in teaching Physical Education
  • have experience in and enthusiasm for coaching student athletes
  • demonstrate the ability to develop and adapt pedagogy, curriculum, and assessments for students with a range of skill levels and learning styles
  • show a commitment to helping girls think independently and develop confidence in their own abilities
  • possess excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • be able to articulate how one's identity plays a role in the classroom and on the field and model inclusive behavior in all settings.

Responsibilities

  • teaching a full-time complement of courses in the K-12 Physical Education curriculum, which includes fitness, wellness, and sports
  • coaching the equivalent of two varsity seasons in the Middle and/or Upper School athletic program
  • implementing an inclusive, anti-bias, and anti-racist pedagogy
  • participating in and/or leading grade-level team planning meetings with PE colleagues
  • prioritizing the safety of students and athletes in all settings
  • helping to plan and execute school-wide events hosted by the PE and Athletics Departments.
