About The Position

Marion Cross School has an opening for a Pre-K - 6th grade PE teacher, beginning in August 2026. The successful candidate must be collaborative and flexible, and have strong relationship building skills. Sincere interest in integrating curriculum is a must. The ideal candidate will provide quality, data-driven instruction to meet the needs of all learners, communicate effectively and work collaboratively. The Marion Cross School is a Pre-K - 6 school in beautiful Norwich, Vermont. We are home to the first interstate school district. We seek a teacher who will work collaboratively to grow an elementary program and class environment favorable to learning and student growth. The teacher will work to establish effective rapport with students, to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education in accordance with each student’s ability, and to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. This position begins 8/19/2026, open until filled. This position is governed by the Norwich Teachers Association Agreement . Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • NH Teaching Certification with current Physical Education Endorsement

  • Preferred experience in Outdoor Adventure education model

Responsibilities

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, that meets National Standards and aligns with District curriculum.
  • Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide a safe, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  • Leads cooperative team building activities.
  • Facilitates and maintains a low and high challenge ropes course.
  • Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers testing in accordance with testing practices.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, individual and team sports
  • Must comply with all SAU 70 District policy and building / department rules, procedures, practices and objectives.
