About The Position

Dakota Memorial School (DMS) is a non-public school located on the campuses of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch. DMS provides a specialized education for children in residential care at the Ranch, along with Day Students who come to us from the surrounding communities. The education faculty at DMS believe our greatest contribution is to be sure there is a teacher in every classroom who cares that every student, every day, learns and grows and feels like a real human being.

Are you passionate about teaching and making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth? Our specialized school is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Physical Education Teacher to join our team. This full-time position is an opportunity to impact students' lives in a small, supportive environment where individualized attention and relationship-building are key.

About Us
Our school serves at-risk youth in grades 6-12, including those in a residential treatment center. With a focus on safety, respect, and responsibility, we provide a holistic approach to education and behavior support for students who thrive in non-traditional settings.

Requirements

• A current teaching license in Physical Education for grades 6-12 OR eligibility for provisional licensure in these areas.
• Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to trauma-informed practices.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with at-risk youth is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach middle and high school Physical Education courses aligned with state standards.
• Develop engaging, differentiated lesson plans to meet diverse student needs.
• Foster a supportive, structured classroom environment that encourages academic and personal growth.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress to stakeholders.
