Join our dedicated and energetic team of educators as a Physical Education Teacher in our Raymond Hill School. The Raymond Hill School serves elementary, middle, and high school students in need of specialized services delivered in an environment of safety and caring. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Education and/or the Assistant Director of Education, plans, organizes, and teaches physical training and health subjects, and conducts recreation activities and programs to develop physical and personal strengths and abilities of students, and to support overall student care and treatment programs

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in physical education/Special Education and CT state certification required
  • Acquisition and maintenance of certifications in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, CPR/First Aid and an "A" endorsement on your Driver's License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, organizes, and conducts recreation activities to develop constructive interests and social interactions among students; supervises student participants.
  • Conducts physical education, training, and health classes as scheduled; supports student participation in physical health improvement, and in individual and group activities; participates in class planning.
  • Modifies existing classes and class programs in accordance with student’s IEP to build and sustain participant interest and to increase participation; consults with special education teachers concerning course appropriateness.
  • Participates in treatment plan reviews as assigned for students in the education programs; designs recreation activities for group and individual physical education and recreation training to meet treatment plans and needs.
  • Encourages the exercise of responsibility by student participants; fosters the development of self confidence and esteem.
  • Teaches assigned physical education classes which meet State and education program requirements; participates in education program meetings as assigned.
  • Provides for the health and safety of participants in physical training and recreation programs.
  • Transports students on approved school activities with appropriate motor vehicle licensure.
  • Participates in the development and modification of physical education plans for individual students; is aware of and implements relevant components of IEP.
  • Assists as directed in the utilization of community recreation resources; recommends participants and levels of participation.
  • Recommends acquisition of materials and equipment necessary for training and recreation plans.
  • Reports significant changes and developments in student performance or behavior; participates in student treatment program evaluations as assigned; prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of such special programs as assemblies, special activity days, and observances as assigned.
  • Provides additional educational, recreational, and student support services as assigned.
