About The Position

The Teacher Newcomer Program duties will consist of providing instruction for newcomer students who are within one to three years of being educated in US schools. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine and three-quarter (9.75) Month- Teacher Contract Position, (200 days), plus Benefit Package NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. This position is reviewed annually and is contingent upon continued funding FLSA:EXEMPT TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE Work Days/Work Hours: 5 days/7.5 hours per day Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements of duties and responsibilities describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position . Employee’s assignment is subject to the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools. Will provide instruction/interventions for K-5 grade students who are identified as Multilingual Learner (MLLs) and are developing proficiency in the target language (English) and/or working below grade level in any of the core subject areas. Collaborate with grade level teachers in planning daily lessons, analyzing data, and providing appropriate interventions/modifications. Monitor student progress over time. Serve on the LPAC: Maintain documentation for students identified as LMS to meet compliance requirements for Titles III and VI. Observe students in their classrooms to ensure transfer and success of intervention. Provide small group instruction for students in grades K-5. Communicates student’s progress to parents and teachers as well as instructional leaders in the school. Participates in creating an environment conducive to the learning and growth of all children. Enters data online and prepares reports for school and district, as needed. Attends professional development as necessary to enhance professional knowledge Administers Various assessments as well as but not limited to ELPA 21 and Diagnostic Tests to children. Collaborate to provide to provide support forclassroom teachers on effective teaching strategies for Multilingual Learners. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education PR-4.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Expertise and experience related to literacy and second language acquisition is required.
  • Mastery of effective instructional techniques and strategies that lead to improved student achievement in all content areas.
  • Knowledge of implementation of best MLL practices as well as integrating in a mainstream classroom.
  • Knowledge of interventions appropriate for Multilingual learners and the MTSS Process.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills.
  • Evidence of expert use of technology both at the instructional level and usage level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and leadership abilities.
  • Conviction that all children can and will learn in the Little Rock School District.

Nice To Haves

  • ESL endorsement and additional work with SIOP I and SIOP II training is desired.
  • Three or more years of recent classroom experience at the K-5 level, primary years preferred
  • Preference given to work with Multilingual learners.
  • Bilingual – Proficient in speaking English as well as Spanish or willing to learn.
