About The Position

Assist or acts as lead teacher and follows classroom policies and procedures to provide education and instruction to children in a healthy and safe environment. Leads activities for the children to develop social, intellectual, emotional and physical growth.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Requires a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or a one-year certificate in early childhood education, child development, or elementary education. (A combination of credits and clock hours can be combined as approved by licensing to meet.) (10 vocational clock hours in education or other related field equals 1 credit).
  • Requires two years of experience working in a child care setting or school, or the equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to relate effectively with children, parents and staff.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Requires ability to work as part of a team.
  • Twenty hours of STARS coursework is required at the start of the job, and 20 hours of STARS coursework, and 10 hours STARS is required each year.
  • First Aid and CPR training and certification required.
  • HIV/AIDS and BLOOD BORNE PATHEGONS training required.
  • Must be able to obtain a food handler’s card.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability under the Tribal vehicle/equipment insurance plan is required.
  • Requires 20 hours of basic STARS training and 10 hours of continuing STARS training.
  • Must pass a TB test.
  • Must pass Tribal and Washington State Patrol background checks.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and random drug screenings.
  • Must pass Tribal and Child Care Licensing background checks.
  • Must favorably pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Hepatitis A & B vaccinations required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct instruction to a variety of age groups: infant, toddler, preschool and or school age children.
  • Prepares lesson plans, creates and schedules activities for children, drafts monthly letter and calendar for parents, and schedules field trips.
  • Works closely with the Language Specialist and coordinates lesson plans and activities.
  • Ensures the center and outside environment is safe and healthy and meets and exceeds licensing requirements.
  • Cleans and prepares center throughout the day and when closing to meet and exceed center and licensing requirements.
  • Assists lead teachers, supervisors, manager or director as directed.
  • Assists with meal preparations and clean up as needed.
  • Builds strong relationships with the children, their parents, staff and the Kalispel community.
  • Communicates with parents, staff and management about children’s progress.
  • Completes daily and monthly paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Regularly communicates (oral, written, telephone, etc.) with staff, parents, children and community.
  • Knows, understands and follows minimum licensing requirements, Kalispel Tribe Policies, CELC Policies and Procedures, etc.
  • Drives child care vehicle on field trips and ensures service and mileage records are completed and up to date.
  • Checks inventory levels for supplies and orders as necessary.
  • Responsible for meal time clean up (disinfecting tables, chairs, sweep and mop floor, etc.)
  • Attends training and staff meetings.
