The outreach assistant is primarily responsible for working with students in a small group, one-on-one or in a classroom setting with behavioral challenges. These services include providing implementation of behavior plans, collecting progress monitoring data, and teaching and modeling social emotional skills. When working within the exceptional children's program, teacher assistants will work with students with special needs. Teacher assistants in this environment may be asked to attend regular education classes to support learning by adapting information and tasks to their learning style and IEP goals. This position requires travel to multiple school locations in the district with mileage reimbursement provided at the current state rate. NATURE OF WORK An employee in this class provides support to the teacher in the instruction of students. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the teacher in the teaching-learning process for students. The work is directed by specific instructions, precedents, and established policy. Problems are solved through the exercise of judgment in selecting the best course of action to be taken. Errors are expected to be recognized promptly by the supervisor and corrected with little negative consequence. The work is performed under the limited supervision of the teacher and/or principal. All Teacher Assistants must be willing and able to obtain a bus license. Teacher assistants will not be required to take on a bus route but will be required to serve as a substitute bus driver when needed.
