About The Position

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping at-risk youth. We are Working Together to Strengthen North Carolina’s Youth and Families! This position is a 12 month Exceptional Children's Program teaching position. Teacher will work directly with students who have Individual Education Plans. Teacher will co-teach middle and high school courses with core teachers and/or teach EC classes independently. Teacher will be responsible for planning lessons based on the Common Core/Essential Standards and students individual learning needs. Teacher will be responsible for ensuring success with EC students while providing appropriate and engaging activities to teach concepts. Teacher will provide research-based interventions to provide an appropriate education for EC students. Teacher will utilize data to inform all instructional activities based on the NC Standards. Teacher will be responsible for keeping all student records, exceptional children's program paperwork, and student progress up to date. Maintain composure and professionalism in a setting involving direct contact with adjudicated youth who can be verbally abusive and physically violent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Exceptional Children’s area with or eligible to receive a license level of one of the following: A, M, S, D.
  • Must be Highly Qualified for EC OR eligible for license through an alternative licensing pathway offered by NCDPI.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing instruction with solid classroom management techniques.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience interpreting the laws that govern programs for students with exceptionalities.
  • Experience writing individualized education plans.
