About The Position

This position is for first grade homeroom teacher, which includes homeroom teacher responsibilities, instruction in literacy and math for one section of 17 students, and lunch and recess duties. The position requires faculty to work collaboratively to create and implement a program that is engaging and confidence-building. The faculty member will join an experienced and talented team that is eager to meld innovative approaches with traditional ones in order to reach each student. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Requirements

  • Possess the knowledge or experience needed to design developmentally appropriate lessons for students in first grade.
  • Possess background knowledge in the developmental characteristics of elementary school aged children.
  • Possess background knowledge in appropriate levels of reading and writing for first grade students.
  • Possess background knowledge and experience in teaching mathematics to young learners.
  • Have the ability to support students in their development of key habits of successful learners.
  • Demonstrate competency with student-centered technology, and an interest in advancing and supporting its use to enhance student learning.
  • Collaborate with other members of the first grade team and all Preschool and Lower School faculty to discuss and share recent research and national standards that have proven to lead to effective learning.
  • Have at least 3-5 years of prior teaching experience with elementary students.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (both writing and speaking) and a highly refined work ethic.
  • Have a desire to be part of a community that values difference and actively engages with it.
  • Show a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (e.g., familiarity with concepts; evidence of relevant personal growth; examples of relevant practice, etc.).
  • Be a motivated collaborator, possess a strong work ethic, and have a positive spirit

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Bridges Math curriculum is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for a homeroom of 17 students.
  • Teaching literacy and math.
  • Participating in assigned lunch, recess, and carpool duty.
  • Writing progress reports on all students three times per year; leading scheduled parent teacher conferences four times per year.
  • Collaborating within a team of five homeroom teachers.
  • Attending divisional and departmental meetings, participating in professional development activities, observing/being observed by colleagues/administration and giving/receiving feedback.
