About The Position

Tax Manager, full-time and hybrid position in Metro Detroit, Michigan What will you do? The US Tax Manager will oversee all aspects of federal, state, and local tax compliance and planning for the US entity, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. This role also supervises and coordinates external tax vendors and consultants in Canada, Australia, and Asia-Pacific (APAC) countries. The role is responsible for transfer pricing compliance, evaluating and optimizing tax billing flows, and proactively identifying tax planning opportunities to reduce global tax exposure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive US tax experience, including experience with federal, state, and local tax compliance and planning.
  • Experience supervising external tax vendors/consultants in multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, income tax provisions, transfer pricing regulations, and corporate tax compliance.
  • Proven experience in identifying tax optimization opportunities and improving tax-related processes.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to interact effectively with senior management and external advisors.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multinational corporations and cross-border tax issues.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and tax software.
  • Knowledge of Canadian, Australian, and APAC tax regulations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • US Tax Compliance and Reporting. Ensure compliance with US federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Administer and manage tax audits, including preparation and communication with authorities.
  • Organize and prepare quarterly and annual US income tax provisions in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Forecast and monitor quarterly effective tax rates for the US entity.
  • Reconcile income tax accounts and calculate income tax payments.
  • Maintain accurate records of tax filings and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with US and global transfer pricing regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct tax research and provide recommendations on complex tax issues, new laws, and regulations.
  • Identify and assess potential tax risks and opportunities, providing guidance to senior management.
  • Evaluate and propose improvements to tax billing flows to optimize cash flow and minimize tax exposure.
  • Continuously look for tax optimization opportunities across US and international operations.
  • Document and maintain processes for R&D tax credits and other US tax incentives.
  • Provide strategic input on business transactions, corporate restructuring, and cross-border activities from a tax perspective.
  • Supervise and coordinate external tax vendors/consultants in Canada, Australia, and APAC countries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely foreign tax filings and compliance.
  • Monitor performance of external consultants and vendors, ensuring alignment with company policies and local regulations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and external tax advisors globally.
  • Mentor, supervise, and develop tax team members, delegating responsibilities effectively.
  • Oversee daily operations of the tax department to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and other internal departments to provide tax guidance and support.
