About The Position

Collegium Pharmaceutical is building a leading, diversified biopharmaceutical company committed to improving the lives of people living with serious medical conditions. We have a leading portfolio of responsible pain management and neuropsychiatry medications. Hybrid: Required to be onsite in Stoughton, MA on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. POSITION OVERVIEW The Tax Director will oversee all aspects of corporate tax accounting, strategy, compliance, and planning. As the Company’s first dedicated tax hire, this individual will establish the foundation of our internal tax processes, including ownership of the quarterly tax provision and transfer pricing, while working in close partnership with a strong Finance team and a network of experienced external advisors. This role is designed to be collaborative and well supported and is positioned to make a meaningful impact on a dynamic and growing organization. The role will require both hands-on execution and strategic leadership. The Tax Director will develop strong relationships with external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals, such as advisors and auditors, and will develop strong internal relationships through cross-functional collaboration with the Company’s Finance, Legal, Business Development, and other teams. Success in the role will require balancing near-term accounting, reporting, and compliance needs with the ongoing development of scalable, forward-looking tax processes and strategy. The Tax Director will establish practical processes, ensure compliance, communicate issues clearly, and provide sound feedback to relevant stakeholders. The ideal candidate will embrace the opportunity to build and shape Collegium’s internal tax processes in support of the Company’s continued growth. They will bring strong technical tax expertise, strong communication skills, consistent execution, and a willingness to voice their opinion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience, including significant expertise in ASC 740, including the following:
  • Experience in public accounting and/or in a corporate tax role at a publicly traded company Experience either working with clients in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and/or working directly in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. tax laws, including income tax accounting under ASC 740, equity compensation, 162(m), R&D credits, and transfer pricing
  • Experience either auditing or working at a publicly traded company with an international presence
  • Demonstrated ability to manage both internal and external stakeholders and drive projects to completion in a lean internal environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Adaptable and proactive approach
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with internal tax software systems and/or ERP systems
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication

  • CPA or advanced tax degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead, review, and take ownership of externally prepared tax provision and supporting documentation in accordance with ASC 740
  • Own tax accounting conclusions, calculations, controls, and related journal entries, including tax provision processes, intercompany/transfer pricing methodologies, and reporting compliance
  • Develop and maintain tax-related internal controls and documentation in support of SOX and external audit requirements Manage and oversee preparation and review of all federal, state, and local income tax returns with assistance of external advisors
  • Ensure timely filing and accurate reporting of all tax obligations
  • Provide recommendations and feedback to Finance Senior Leadership on tax implications of business strategies, including acquisitions, NOLs, R&D credits, and transfer pricing considerations
  • Understand, remain current, and communicate changes in tax law to stakeholders with assistance from external advisors
  • Identify and implement opportunities for tax efficiencies and savings
  • Evaluate the tax impact of potential business development opportunities such as mergers, acquisitions, and other potential transactions with assistance from external advisors
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities and oversee responses to inquiries, audits, and examinations
  • Develop and maintain internal policies and controls related to tax processes
  • Partner and lead discussions with Finance, Legal, Commercial, Supply Chain, R&D and various other teams to align tax considerations with business activities
  • Serve as the key liaison and in-house service matter expert with external tax advisors, auditors, and consultants
