The Tax Compliance Analyst ensures our multi-entity, multi-state tax operations remain compliant, accurate, and audit-ready across all jurisdictions. You will manage the controls, reconciliations, and reporting that support federal, state, and local tax compliance, including excise, sales/use, business license, and payroll tax interfaces. Partnering with Accounting, Finance, Legal, and Operations, you will track evolving regulations, mitigate risk, and lead process improvements to ensure timely, error-free filings and sustainable compliance practices. Success in this role means no late filings, no penalties, clean reconciliations, and a strong audit trail across all tax domains. The candidate will work very closely with the Corporate Controller, Company CPA, VP of HR, and respective senior team members.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Controls Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local tax laws (sales/use, business license, payroll-related, and income tax).
  • Translate new or changing tax requirements into actionable policies, process updates, and system configurations.
  • Maintain a tax compliance control framework, including segregation of duties, reconciliation checkpoints, documentation standards, and review protocols.
  • Develop and maintain tax calendars to ensure timely filings, remittances, and renewals across all entities and jurisdictions.
  • Prepare, review, and file recurring tax returns (sales/use, excise, cannabis-specific, and local business taxes).
  • Reconcile tax liabilities to the general ledger; research and resolve discrepancies and tax notices.
  • Support quarterly and annual filings (income, franchise, and information returns) in partnership with accounting and external advisors.
  • Manage tax registrations, renewals, and closures for new or inactive entities and locations.
  • Lead or assist in responding to external audits and inquiries from taxing authorities.
  • Conduct internal tax compliance reviews and process testing to identify risks and control gaps.
  • Maintain complete audit-ready documentation, including reconciliations, remittance confirmations, and tax correspondence.
  • Track and report open items, audit findings, and remediation status to leadership.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Finance, Legal, Payroll, and Operations) to streamline tax workflows and improve data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with IT and software providers to ensure proper tax code mapping, jurisdiction setup, and reporting automation.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance accuracy and efficiency through system configuration, robotics, or reporting automation.
  • Maintain dashboards and KPIs including filing timeliness, notice resolution rate, reconciliation status, audit outcomes, and control testing results.
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly compliance reports highlighting risks, corrective actions, and trend analysis.
  • Support tax provision and forecasting activities with accurate, timely data.

  • Minimum 5 years of tax compliance or accounting experience in a multi-entity, multi-state environment; cannabis or manufacturing industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. indirect tax rules (sales/use, excise, business license); basic understanding of income tax principles.
  • Proficiency in ERP and tax software (e.g., NetSuite, Avalara, Vertex).
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and implement process/system changes.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Capable of repetitive hand and arm motions as well as extended periods of typing.
  • Capable of looking at a screen for extended periods or entire shifts.
  • Some travel may be required to attend cross-functional team meetings or support product launch events.
