About The Position

Position assists the University Tax Director with university tax compliance needs. The role requires the ability to work in tax reporting systems, interpret IRS code and treasury regulations and collaborate with university departments with a particular emphasis on unrelated business income tax, sales tax, employee compensation, non-resident alien tax compliance, scholarship/fellowship/grants, and other issues related to higher education to facilitate compliance with tax law. Responsibilities Assists team responsible for processing payments to non-US citizens with various issues and assists with developing processes and procedures as needed. Include assisting with reconciling taxes withheld from university payments to IRS deposits and amounts reported on IRS Forms 1042 and 1042S. Gathers and analyzes university department unrelated business income tax workpapers, and recommends updates to comply with federal and state tax laws and regulations. Compiles report of university revenue generating activities and documents university tax positions. Performs UBI research. Prepares federal IRS Form 990-T and state FL Form F-1120 unrelated business income tax returns and additional supporting workpapers. Gathers information, prepares initial research and drafts recommendations on various tax implications of university transactions including but not limited to unrelated business income tax, sales tax. non-resident alien, independent contractor vs employee determinations, scholarship/ fellowship vs compensation and other determinations. Prepares tax training guidance and participates in presentations for university departments as needed. Participates in university revenue generating contract and sponsorship agreement reviews. Assists with updates needed to online business processes. Attends university tax conferences and tax peer group meetings. Participates in peer discussions and meetings. Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Senate Bill 1310 – The Florida Senate ( https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310 ) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Accounting (preferred), tax specialization with a CPA (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years university tax or comparable public accounting/ other tax experience (preferred).
