About The Position

Performs routine clerical, accounting, and finance work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs a variety of routine and complex clerical, accounting, and finance work in maintaining the Real Estate Taxes, garbage fee, PC and interim tax bills for the township. Duties include coordinating and maintaining, recording and processing tax documents, records. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Answer phone calls, including main line Wait on people at the window, including, but not limited to: Take cash and check payments for Tax bills, Business Privilege, Recreation, Development, Public Works, and Administration. Printing and checking status of Tax bills Maintain assigned Cash drawer. Keeping monies, checks and bills organized. Create daily deposit and balance sheets Verify and document amount of cash in assigned drawer at the end of each shift and transfer cash, checks and bills to appropriate employee Communicate with taxpayers Maintain simple files Post School, Township, Garbage and Per Capita taxes to TaxTrax, balance and print summary reports Open and distribute mail. Mains the BP Tax database by inputting taxes, creating accounts, maintaining accounts, invoicing and batching payments. Make simple mathematical calculations Maintain Moving Permit (MP) files Maintain Landlord file and mail landlord letters Receive Move in and Move Out lists monthly from Apartment complexes Prepare batches for paid Tax bills Process Per capita Exonerations generate report for Whitehall-Coplay SD Communicate with Public Works Department regarding recycling issues and garbage toters Maintains office supplies. Must prepare correspondence. Operates listed office machines as required. Wears appropriate safety equipment as needed and performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Specialized course work in general office practices such as bookkeeping (taxes), accounting, computers
  • Two (2) years of responsible clerical-related experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing, working knowledge of modern office practices and procedure, some knowledge of accounting principles and practices and concept of tax law.
  • Familiarity with county, school and township tax ordinances and court decisions that influence tax enforcement and collection procedures.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the collection and processing of taxes, permit and license fees and other sources of government revenue.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain fiscal records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to quickly make accurate arithmetic computations; ability to perform cashier duties accurately; ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed (minimum 40 wpm)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with associates, auditors, other government officials and the public.
