Primary Purpose This role is part of the Parent Tax Team, which supports the Parent Business Unit. The Parent Tax Team consists of the Tax Manager and two Tax Seniors and is responsible for Tax Planning, Tax Accounting, and Tax Compliance for the 20+ entities within the Parent Business Unit. The team is also responsible for the preparation and review of the federal consolidated tax return. The role completes core compliance and provision activities, reconciles data to source systems, and recommends targeted fixes to improve cycle time and enhance data integrity.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a 4‑year degree in accounting, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Typically requires 2 or more years of experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer software applications including Microsoft Excel and Word, SAP (or similar GL system), and tax systems (e.g. Corptax, PowerPlan and Onesource Tax Provision). Understanding and application of Alteryx (or other ETL) is a plus.
  • Tax Compliance - Ensures timely and accurate preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns while adhering to statutory requirements and organizational policies.
  • Tax Accounting - Prepares accurate tax returns and tax payments, manages uncertain tax positions and valuation allowances, and implements enhanced disclosures, with strong review controls, which meet rigorous review and transparency standards.
  • Tax Legislation Interpretation - Analyzes existing and emerging tax laws to determine operational impact, identify risks or opportunities, and recommend compliant, business‑aligned tax positions.
  • Audit and Examination Support - Responds effectively to inquiries from tax authorities, prepares documentation, and partners with internal and external stakeholders to resolve audit findings.
  • Tax Research and Issue Resolution - Conducts structured research to address complex tax questions, evaluates authoritative guidance, and formulates defensible positions which support compliance and planning objectives.
  • Tax Planning and Optimization - Develops and evaluates tax‑efficient strategies to support business objectives, reduce liabilities legally, and strengthen long‑term financial performance.
  • Cross‑Functional Tax Collaboration - Partners with finance, accounting, legal, and operational teams to assess tax impacts of business decisions and ensure accurate integration of tax requirements across the organization.
  • Tax Reporting - The process of providing information to the government or tax authorities about the business's income, expenses, and other financial transactions in order to calculate and pay the appropriate amount of taxes owed.
  • Controls and SOX for Tax - Designs and operates internal controls over tax processes (provision, returns, significant estimates), remediates common control gaps, and governs automation and reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in accounting or tax is preferred.
  • CPA license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Calculates tax adjustments (permanent and temporary differences) for the financial forecasting and strategic planning for entities and projects.
  • Maintains awareness of existing and emerging tax laws, GAAP, and SEC regulations, particularly to how they apply to assigned entities and tasks, including researching and quantifying any impact to the company’s financial statements.
  • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the industry and the business; and develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Completes core return schedules, estimated payments, and extensions, applying documented tax methods.
  • Prepares journal entries for monthly and quarterly close and supports basic tax account roll forwards.
  • Compiles multi‑source data for provision calculations and validates ties to the general ledger.
  • Coordinates routine notice responses and maintains request logs to meet response timelines.
  • Performs targeted research on form instructions and filing requirements and summarizes findings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
