About The Position

The Sales and Use Tax Specialist is an individual contributor role reporting to the Assistant Controller. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely filing of sales and use tax returns and payments across multiple jurisdictions. Key responsibilities include: Preparing and distributing sales tax exemption certificates. Managing vendor information within Vertex and SAP systems. Performing daily analysis of data from SAP and Vertex to maximize tax savings and minimize audit exposure. Ensuring proper implementation of changes in tax laws. This role requires regular interaction with internal teams such as Accounts Payable, Supply Chain, and Program Finance, as well as external vendors. Additionally, the position supports the broader tax team and may assist with property tax and income tax matters. Other duties may include: Identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce tax exposure. Designing, modifying, installing, and/or maintaining software systems to ensure accurate recognition of tax and financial transactions. Compiling and analyzing financial information to record transactions, prepare reports, and verify accuracy. Maintaining or overseeing control of accounts and records related to disbursements, expenses, and tax payments. Performing balance sheet reconciliations, preparing and recording journal entries, and assisting with month-end close procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Four years of directly related exempt work experience may be used to satisfy the bachelor's degree requirement
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule (combination of on-site and remote work, with training taking place on-site)
  • Sales and Use Tax Compliance Knowledge
  • Tax Audit Experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills (Pivot Tables Important)
  • Tax Research and Ability to Analyze and Interpret State and Local Tax Laws
  • Team Oriented
  • Is A Self-Starter and Demonstrates Ownership of Assigned Tasks
