About The Position

Assist in preparation of federal and state income tax filings and financial reports. Assists with tax research. This position ensures compliance with internal controls and promotes collaboration among accounting team while maintaining strict confidentiality over appropriate information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting or related field Preferred
  • 1 year experience in tax or related area Preferred
  • Desire and willingness to learn statutory, GAAP and tax accounting principles, including SSAP101 and ASC 740 guidelines, and acquire working knowledge of statutory annual statements and life company operations
  • Good organizational skills with the proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast paced
  • Effective written and oral communication skill with an engaging approach and style
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills; working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Criminal background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of federal and state income tax filings, including annual and quarterly estimated payments. Identify new or unique items for proper handling in completion of returns.
  • Assist in preparation and analysis of year-end and interim statutory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) work papers and reports on a timely and accurate basis; review and learn ASC 740 and SSAP101 guidelines and their application.
  • Assist in providing research and analysis for tax reporting and tax planning, including state income tax planning to minimize tax liability; identify and make recommendations for new procedures to improve efficiency of tax reporting.
  • Follow internal controls impacting the tax department to comply with the NAIC Model Audit Rule.
  • Demonstrate collaborative team skills within and outside of Corporate Accounting; work in a positive fashion toward common organization goals.
