Conduct laboratory research and development testing, prototype manufacturing, and production manufacturing of non-metallic materials for all classes of US Navy Submarines. Work daily with plastics, elastomers, epoxies, adhesive systems, paint systems, rubbers, fiberglass, solvents, and other chemicals. Formulate, mold, and cast non-metallic materials for multiple applications. Follow and execute written Laboratory requests, work instructions, and testing documents. Operate various laboratory equipment including curing ovens, vacuum pumps, water baths, processors, batch mixers, standard power tools, etc. Operate standard sand blasting, paint spraying, and powder coating equipment. Conduct analytical testing using hardness gauges, viscometers, balances, pH meters, mil thickness gauges, dynamic test machines, etc. Work daily with other technicians and Laboratory Engineers. Maintain a written Laboratory Log Book containing all supporting documentation and test data required for each assignment. Support urgent shipyard construction activities, including on-hull specialty non-metallic component repairs and testing.
