About The Position

As a Systems Security Engineering Intern working in the Systems Integrity Center of Raytheon Engineering in Air & Space Defense Systems, you will interface with the members of other program teams to evaluate system security or troubleshoot / resolve security integration issues. You may participate in developing or updating documentation such as Concept of Operations (CONOPS), system architecture, system security requirements and support requirement qualification, verification and validation. You may also perform functional / physical analysis, allocation, and trade studies. This position is onsite role. This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree program and will be at minimum, entering their Junior, Senior, or Post Graduate standing level by the start of the internship.

Requirements

  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Aerospace Engineering degree program
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Top Secret with CI Polygraph security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Understanding of Linux operating system and database capabilities
  • Ability to analyze technical issues and define solutions
  • Exposure to troubleshooting technical issues with computer systems in an academic or internship setting, or as part of a hobby

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or coursework in Cybersecurity or Systems Security Engineering
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Basic understanding of how satellite ground systems are developed and function
  • Understanding of system security tools (Tenable, Nessus, Tripwire, Splunk, Symantec Anti-Virus, SonarQube, etc.)
  • Scripting / software development experience using Python, JavaScript, etc.
  • Strong communication skills including effective writing, verbal and listening skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently pursue information and solve problems
  • CompTIA Security+ certification

Responsibilities

  • Support systems requirement development and analysis.
  • Support activities in our labs and document requirement verifications.
  • Assess implementation of security controls
  • Integrate systems into customer operational networks
  • Validate secure configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, servers, operating systems, applications, and other assets, using DoD approved scanning and assessment tools such as ACAS, STIG, SCAP Compliance Checker and HBSS tools.
  • Prepare and present results in reports and briefings to internal or external stakeholders
