About The Position

In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program. The Opportunity BAE Systems is seeking a Systems Engineering Intern (with an Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Focus) for Summer 2025. Join our System Security Engineering Team within our Specialty Engineering Division and become a member of a diverse, enthusiastic, and highly productive team, where each employee has the opportunity to grow their skills and work on rewarding system security engineering projects in support of the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs, the sea-based leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. Working closely with interdisciplinary teams within a digital engineering environment and leveraging model-based systems engineering methodologies, the selected candidate will support cybersecurity, anti-tamper, supply chain, as well as hardware and software assurance activities for the Trident II D5 Strategic Weapons System programs by performing the following functions: • Identifying and incorporating security design and process requirements into risk identification and management in the requirements trade space • Contributing to design solutions that achieve the optimum balance between product capability and defense-in-depth security • Identifying attack vectors and proposing countermeasures that provide the greatest protection at the best value for the system’s entire lifecycle • Working in a team environment implementing innovative protection schemes with rapidly evolving technologies

Requirements

  • Enrolled student at an accredited 4-year college / university having completed a minimum of two years (Sophomore year) towards a Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other engineering-related degree
  • Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a relevant field of specialization
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word, etc.)
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the System Engineering “Vee” framework
  • Familiarity with MBSE modeling languages, frameworks, and tools such as SysML, DoDAF, UML, Cameo
  • Experience with scripting and programming languages
