About The Position

DEP’s Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is currently seeking a Systems Programmer II. This position is responsible for technical support in the design, installation, and operation of networked computers running Microsoft and/or Linux server operating systems, network protocols including TCP/IP, Active Directory and Azure O365. The incumbent must be available to occasionally work after normal work hours, weekends and holidays for on-call duty status and be able to occasionally travel to the agency’s field offices throughout the state. The incumbent of this position will represent OTIS and must be helpful, cooperative, polite, respectful, and courteous at all times in the interactions with customers.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, VB, bat files
  • Knowledge of computers and software
  • Knowledge of PC/Server and mid-range operating systems and network topologies
  • Knowledge of Active Directory Federated Services and Cloud Technologies such as Azure
  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to process information logically and solve problems
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot networked systems
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays, as needed
  • Ability to travel and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in administering Microsoft Server operating systems in an enterprise environment (Preferred)
  • Experience in using Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID in a hybrid environment (Preferred)
  • Experience in administering Microsoft 365 including Intune, Exchange, and productivity applications (Preferred)
  • Experience in creating and modifying PowerShell or other enterprise scripting languages (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, tune and manage the operations of all Microsoft Windows and/or Linux-based operating system servers and systems of the agency. This includes the Active Directory and Azure Active Directory support as well as department-specific custom applications. Advise management on new or improved technologies, practices, and cost-saving ideas. Perform studies and evaluate new or enhanced information technology products. Provide support of system software through diagnosis of problems and implementation of changes to resolve problems and maintain software at the most current level.
  • Manage the agency’s Office 365 and Exchange Online infrastructure via PowerShell scripting and automation. Manage the agency’s Active Directory environment via PowerShell scripting and automation. Generate and create reporting tools on the agency’s infrastructure for staff to utilize.
  • Communicate and coordinate with staff responsible for the data network administration, monitoring and operations. This will include installing, performance tuning and integrating network control and monitoring software. Coordinate with the DEP Information security unit  to protect the data of the agency.
  • Conduct research and development in the implementation and maintenance of network facilities that affect the distributed computer environment. Troubleshoot computing based problems and develop solutions, as well as work with all department groups to develop and/or implement solutions.
  • Employee is expected to identify and meet the needs of customers in order to provide excellent customer service. Employee should be helpful, cooperative, polite, respectful and concerned at all times in the interactions with customers when representing the Department or the State.  This position serves as a customer service representative on behalf of this division when interacting with customers through all communication media, as well as when responding to incident/request service desk services.
  • Provide assistance and fully support the efforts of the agency’s Information Technology Strategic Plan. Demonstrate strong relationship and interpersonal skills in working with program staff and the vendor community. Maintain a working knowledge of established policies, procedures and directives necessary to accomplish assignments and responsibilities. Maintain a central filing system supporting assigned functions, duties and responsibilities using effective organizational and filing methods, which provide opportunity for knowledge transfer. Maintain proficiency in the use of office equipment, software applications, and technical writing.
