OIT presents a rare opportunity to join the Datacenter Server Patching and Management Team for a dedicated individual to help maintain and enhance Alaska's enterprise systems. This position is flexibly staffed—whether you're starting fresh or bringing existing expertise, we have a structured training and development plan to help you advance to a journeyman-level role. What does your day look like? Verifying servers performed expected tasks during the maintenance window. Checking enterprise systems to proactively catch issues before they propagate. Investigating operational or security issues. Creating scripts and automation to complete work that is “outside the box” of existing enterprise systems. The Working Environment You Can Expect While the OIT offices are primarily located in downtown Juneau, 5th Floor State Office Building and in downtown Anchorage, at the Bayview Building on Ship Creek Ave, this position is suitable for up to 100% (in-state) telework if all job duties and expectations are able to be met. The working social environment will center around telework. Regular attendance at daily/weekly meetings will be essential to stay abreast of ongoing activities and projects.   • Written Communication: Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
  • Systems Programmer 1: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in: Hardware: Knowledge of specifications, uses, and types of computer or computer-related equipment. Infrastructure Design: Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software. Operating Systems: Knowledge of computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications. Systems Integration: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components. Equivalent to those typically gained by: Training in computer science, information technology, or system administration - or a similar field or professional experience - that provided knowledge of systems, networking software, hardware, protocols, and scripting/automation tools.
  • Systems Programmer 2: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in: Hardware: Knowledge of specifications, uses, and types of computer or computer-related equipment. Infrastructure Design: Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software. Operating Systems: Knowledge of computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications. Systems Integration: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components. Systems Testing and Evaluation: Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing systems testing and evaluation procedures and technical characteristics of IT systems, including identifying critical operational issues. Equivalent to those typically gained by: Training in computer science, information technology, system administration, or a similar field and professional experience in database, network, or system administration.
