About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Education is seeking a Registrar to lead the development and implementation of a statewide centralized education records system for 9-12 students under juvenile court jurisdiction. This critical project aims to minimize educational disruption and enhance outcomes for these students. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in 9-12 credit evaluation, graduation requirements, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in student transcripts. This role is suited for individuals passionate about systems-involved youth, highly organized, and adept at problem-solving. The Nebraska Department of Education does not sponsor or transfer non-immigrant work visas for this position. This is a fixed-term role, concluding on June 30, 2029, with potential extensions contingent on continued funding. The position is based in the office located at 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience related to the essential functions of the position.
  • Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely transfer of 9-12 education records to schools, agencies, students, and families in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other state and federal privacy laws.
  • Assembles, validates, and maintains complete student transcripts and records (e.g., enrolled districts, credit inventory, graduation requirements, attendance records, and any IEP or 504 plans) to ensure students receive appropriate instruction and credit recognition.
  • Identifies gaps and inconsistencies, searches for missing data, and evaluates and awards credits to complete academic records.
  • Researches course materials to determine credit equivalency, support credit decisions, and improve student outcomes.
  • Establishes and fosters strategic partnerships among programs, state agencies, educational institutions, and business and industry partners to facilitate the exchange of information and disseminate resources, publications, and other communications.
  • Completes reporting requirements and program evaluations, and compiles information to increase program sustainability and promote services to benefit vulnerable youth.
  • Maintains regular & reliable attendance, travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.
