About The Position

The Systems & Infrastructure Specialist will take ownership of setting up and supporting business-critical servers, virtualized environments, and application infrastructure that power Vanguard ID’s production, ordering, and data systems. This role blends core IT infrastructure responsibilities, cloud backup and recovery, modern DevOps practices, and day‑to-day IT support. It is an ideal opportunity for an early-career technologist who wants broad, hands-on experience across networking, virtualization, storage, and infrastructure automation while partnering closely with a full-stack developer on new business tools. Requirements

  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in systems administration, DevOps, IT infrastructure, or a closely related technical role.
  • Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows server administration, including basic networking, users/groups, and system services.
  • Exposure to virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, or similar).
  • Basic understanding of containers (e.g., Docker) and how they are deployed and managed.
  • Foundational knowledge of databases, PostgreSQL, and ports, authentication, and backups.
  • Experience with or interest in file storage (NAS/SAN or cloud storage) and SFTP.
  • Comfortable working with routers, firewalls, and VPN-like solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to handle both strategic projects and day-to-day IT issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with developers, operations, and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain reliable, secure, and scalable internal IT systems that support day-to-day operations, production, and collaboration across the company.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain business-critical servers for production and internal applications, including OS configuration, user access, patching, and monitoring.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain network-attached storage and shared file systems, including replacing the legacy shared file system with a more scalable solution.
  • Set up and maintain secure artwork intake systems (SFTP or cloud-based file storage) for receiving, organizing, and protecting customer artwork files.
  • Configure and maintain routers, firewalls, and networks, including reviewing firewall logs, maintaining a Tailscale network, and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Support and contribute to IT initiatives such as Google Workspace migration, user provisioning, identity and password management, and access controls.
  • Host and maintain company websites and related infrastructure.
  • Handle day-to-day IT support issues, including account management, password resets, basic device support, and troubleshooting networked systems.
  • Participate in the implementation and ongoing support of the online ordering system from a DevOps perspective, including environment setup, deployment pipelines, infrastructure configuration, and operational monitoring.
  • Implement and manage virtualization platforms (e.g., Proxmox, VMware, or similar) to run production containers and virtual machines supporting internal and customer-facing applications.
  • Implement and support containerized functions that process artwork and operational data (e.g., barcode image transformations and related workflows) in partnership with a full-stack developer.
  • Support infrastructure and workflows related to software-driven data migrations, including database migrations, file system transitions, and validation of data integrity during system changes.
  • Support and maintain on-premise PostgreSQL database infrastructure, including backups, monitoring, access controls, and secure replication or cloud-based disaster recovery.
  • Collaborate on software systems that interface with production hardware - including RFID printers, barcode scanners, magnetic stripe encoders, sensors, and custom mechanical equipment - to support and enhance encoding workflows.
  • Ensure reliable communication between software systems and devices, including read/write validation, duplicate prevention, scan accuracy, and production data integrity.
  • Support and enhance RFID, barcode, and magnetic stripe encoding processes used in manufacturing and fulfillment environments.
  • Contribute to the design, integration, testing, and support of new custom machinery used in RFID and encoding operations, working across both vendor-supplied solutions and internally developed equipment.
  • Work across both business logic and physical systems, helping translate software requirements into reliable, repeatable production workflows.
  • Document infrastructure, hardware integrations, configurations, and standard operating procedures to ensure repeatability, scalability, and operational resilience.
