About The Position

Based in Westminster Colorado, this incredible team is looking for an entry-level Systems Engineer to support our growing number of exciting projects! In this role, you will work on a variety of technical projects ranging from research applications, technical product development, and spaceflight programs. Many of these programs incorporate the full systems engineering lifecycle from concept development and requirements definition through design, integration, test, and on-orbit operations. In addition to these opportunities, candidates may also have the opportunity to get involved in mission formulation and proposal development efforts. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with a broad technical background, strong communication skills, and the ability to work across disciplines. Requirements

  • B.S./M.S./PhD in Aerospace Engineering with a technical emphasis in Systems Engineering
  • 0-2 years of experience in systems engineering of flight and ground systems with an emphasis on cislunar & deep space systems preferred
  • Understanding of navigation and mission design principles.
  • Basic understanding of how mission design influences spacecraft design decisions.
  • Foundational knowledge of orbital mechanics terminology and concepts, typically gained through academic coursework.
  • Awareness of navigation system components and their role in mission success.
  • Familiarity with basic concepts of tracking, orbit determination, and state estimation.
  • Understanding of the role of flight software in spacecraft operations, including its relationship to system design, hardware interfaces, and ground systems for TT&C.
  • Familiarity with basic software development concepts such as requirements, testing, and version control.
  • Basic knowledge of systems engineering principles and life cycle processes.
  • Ability to identify major spacecraft subsystems and describe their primary functions at a high level.
  • Familiarity with space and mission concepts, systems architecture development, and requirements properties and flowdown.
  • Familiarity with basic operations concepts such as command uplink, telemetry downlink, ground station passes, and mission timelines.
  • Understanding of MBSE concepts and their benefits over document-centric approaches.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to document technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to handle conflict and disagreement with respect and professionalism.
  • Ability to work in the Westminster, CO office 3-5 days/week. Unless work requires otherwise.
  • Applicants must be a US Citizen.
  • Security clearance or the ability to obtain one is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with technical content development for proposals under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Apply academic knowledge to real-world mission development tasks.
  • Support project documentation, requirements flowdown, and interface control activities.
  • Support the understanding and traceability of system requirements and their implications across the design.
  • Assist in preparation for gated design reviews given well-defined tasking.
  • Prepare basic technical content (charts, tables, figures) for design review packages under guidance.
  • Track and support closure of action items resulting from design reviews.
  • Follow established processes to perform system analysis and SysML modeling within existing models.
  • Navigate existing models and locate relevant information with guidance.
  • Develop awareness of the relationship between spacecraft design and operational complexity, including command, telemetry, and ground system interfaces.
  • Support understanding of operational procedures and how they relate to system design, commanding, and fault response.
  • Develop awareness of how ground station networks, communication windows, and data latency affect mission operations planning.
  • Build familiarity with FDIR concepts and how fault management design affects operational response during contingencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet deadlines and deliverables on well-defined tasks; technical work is reviewed prior to final delivery.
  • Participate in IRAD discussions and contribute ideas as opportunities arise.
  • Follow company coding standards, documentation practices, and established workflows.
  • Ask questions and seek to understand the rationale behind established processes.
  • Contribute to team efforts across disciplines as needed.
