About The Position

Tangram Flex is seeking a Systems Engineer to support Department of Defense (DoD) programs in the Dayton, Ohio area. The selected candidate will play a key role in the planning, design, integration, and evaluation of complex systems, providing the technical expertise necessary to define and balance system performance, cost, schedule, risk, and human systems integration. POSITION DESCRIPTION / As a Systems Engineer you will have the opportunities to work on high-impact projects that directly support Air Force missions and enterprise capabilities. Working onsite at WPAFB, office and hybrid in the Dayton area.

Requirements

  • Active DoD Security Clearance or held within the last 12 months.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, or SysML.
  • 3+ years of experience performing systems engineering activities in DoD or defense-related programs.
  • Understanding of systems requirements analysis, design, integration, and verification/test.
  • Experience analyzing and balancing system performance, cost, schedule, and risk within program objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with technical teams and government stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Air Force or DoD acquisition processes and systems engineering standards (e.g., MIL-STD-499C, IEEE 15288).
  • Knowledge of human systems integration (HSI) methodologies.
  • Experience working within Agile, DevSecOps, or integrated digital engineering environments.

Responsibilities

  • Execute systems engineering activities across the program lifecycle—from concept development to deployment and sustainment.
  • Provide technical expertise to integrate system-level requirements, designs, and architectures.
  • Conduct trade studies, risk assessments, and performance analyses to optimize overall system effectiveness.
  • Define and maintain systems engineering processes to balance cost, schedule, technical performance, and risk.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure hardware, software, and human systems integrate effectively.
  • Participate in technical reviews, requirements validation, and interface definition efforts.
  • Support the preparation of technical documentation, test plans, and configuration management artifacts.
