About The Position

This position is a member of the Office of Law Enforcement Services Unit. The primary objective of this position within the Information Technology Unit (ITU) is to deliver quality services through effective systems architecting and planning, project initiation, business analysis, requirements definition, systems design, systems development, systems implementation, on-going maintenance and enhancement, effective problem identification and resolution, production service and support, and systems administration support tasks to ensure computer applications will assist the Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) in achieving its day-to-day mission. This position is responsible for the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of all Office of Law Enforcement Services (OLES) crime lab developed and supported applications and systems. This includes software release, configuration management, server administration, and database administration duties. The incumbent participates in teams and maintains positive, professional relationships with colleagues and customers. The incumbent demonstrates initiative, timeliness, professional self-development, and strong oral and written communications skills.

Requirements

  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle and release management best practices.
  • Experience with industry best practices of the following domains: Windows Server operating system administration, Linux operating system administration, IIS or comparable web server administration, MS SQL Server or comparable database system administration, and ASP.NET application support.
  • Installation and Configuration of Secure Server Systems
  • System Upgrades and Patch Management
  • Backup, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity
  • Implement stringent security protocols aligned with law enforcement standards, including encryption, access controls, and audit logging.
  • Continuously monitor server performance and security logs to detect and respond swiftly to any anomalies or potential cyber threats.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Information Technology or a related field or equivalent training or experience.
  • Intermediate to expert level proficiency of the minimum requirements listed above.
  • Experience with Crime Analysis systems.
