As a Systems Engineer II at the Medtronic Energy and Component Center (MECC), you’ll play a key role in advancing the technologies that power Medtronic’s life‑saving devices. At MECC, you’ll collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to translate complex requirements into practical, reliable system solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work throughout the full product lifecycle – supporting concept development, system design, integration, testing, and optimization. You’ll help ensure components and systems meet performance, safety, and reliability expectations while balancing technical, schedule, and cost considerations. Your work will directly contribute to delivering high‑quality components that support multiple Medtronic operating units and ultimately improve patient outcomes around the world. A Day in the Life Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Reports to the Advanced Software Engineering Manager at Medtronic Engineering and Components Center. Translate user needs and business inputs to customer and stakeholder requirements. Analyze use cases, document product lifecycle, and define use conditions. Perform functional analysis and functional allocation; develop and manage product requirements; document system and subsystem architecture. Employ Model Based Systems Engineering to document and communicate system design. Oversee, and be deeply acquainted with, regulated development processes and standards for risk management, usability, and safety to ensure systems design and documentation meet relevant safety and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 0 years relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LabVIEW, MAP Agile, MES, TestVault.
  • Background in electronics, component‑level design, or manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of risk management, verification/validation processes, or reliability engineering
  • Familiarity with Medtronic products, regulated industries, or FDA/ISO standards
  • Experience working across the full product lifecycle (concept → design → test → release)
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional efforts or support complex system integration
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Exposure to statistical analysis or modeling tools
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers or external partners
  • Advanced degree in engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of root‑cause analysis tools (FMEA, 5 Whys, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
