As a Systems Engineer – Human Factors at Corewell Health, you’ll help shape transformational, enterprise‑level initiatives that drive reliability, elevate patient and caregiver experiences, and bring human‑centered solutions to some of our most complex operational and clinical challenges. Job Summary The Systems Engineer – Human Factors supports the strategic vision of Corewell Health by co-designing and executing innovative and transformative approaches to the complex problems that challenge the organization. Focus will be on driving the needed projects, programs and assignments throughout the organization aimed at improving operational and clinical reliability and achieving measurable results. They will work closely with clinical and operational leadership and team members throughout the system to design and help execute critical initiatives in line with top strategic focus areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Process, or Industrial Engineering; Human Kinetics/Kinesiology; Human Factors or Ergonomics Engineering; Product Design; Systems Engineering; Organizational Design; Organizational Psychology; Sociology; Economics or related field
  • 10 years of deep experience with process improvement, project management, change management, and/or systems engineering/design methodologies and models
  • 5 years of demonstrated competence and experience leading and coaching on improvement initiatives, training programs, and developing large scale programs/portfolios/roadmaps of work
  • CRT-Lean Bronze Certification – within 1 year after hire

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Process, or Industrial Engineering; Human Kinetics/Kinesiology; Human Factors or Ergonomics Engineering; Product Design; Systems Engineering; Organizational Design; Organizational Psychology; Sociology; Economics or related field.
  • 1 year of experience with human centered design frameworks for problem solving, human factors design tools and methods, and/or design thinking methodologies
  • 1 year of experience with organizational design theory, agile teaming/agile transformation, matrixed organizing for agile work
  • 1 year of Research methods and product design experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead System‑Level Improvement Projects Co‑lead and manage innovative improvement initiatives that deliver measurable, sustainable outcomes aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Collaborate Across the Organization Work closely with cross‑functional partners—both within and beyond the immediate team—to build alignment, share insights, and advance work across formal and informal networks.
  • Develop and Enhance Enterprise Processes Design, refine, and standardize system‑wide processes. Partner with leaders, architects, and engineers to ensure consistency with guiding principles and strategic goals.
  • Analyze and Improve Systems and Workflows Assess the effectiveness of existing systems and processes using qualitative and quantitative methods. Implement solutions that enhance performance, reliability, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert Provide education, training, coaching, and mentorship in human factors, systems engineering, and process improvement to strengthen organizational capability.
