About The Position

In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry. As an Embedded HW/FW Engineer at Lam, you'll design complex systems or products for our wafer fabrication equipment. You will define system specifications, requirements, parameters, and compatibility to integrate hardware and firmware into a cohesive system. By identifying, analyzing, and resolving system design weaknesses—and combining your multi-layered technical expertise—you will help shape the next generation of Lam initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree with no experience; or equivalent experience. We will consider an associate’s degree, electrical, computer engineering or related field with relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of electronic design principles, including analog and digital circuits, power management, and signal integrity.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose hardware or firmware issues and identify root causes.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and resolve technical challenges within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with software engineers, mechanical engineers, and other cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of electronic design principles, including analog and digital circuits, power management, and signal integrity.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, DX Designer).
  • Familiarity with various embedded components, their peripherals, and supporting hardware components (e.g., MCU, FPGA, CPLD, ADC, DAC).
  • Knowledge of communication protocols like SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, and EtherCAT.
  • Experience with embedded Linux development for more complex systems.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose hardware or firmware issues and identify root causes.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and resolve technical challenges within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with software engineers, mechanical engineers, and other cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

  • Hardware Design:
  • Create schematics and PCB layouts for embedded systems, selecting components such as microcontrollers, memory chips, ADCs, and power circuits.
  • Design and optimize boards for power efficiency, signal integrity, and thermal management.
  • Develop component specifications and procure parts from vendors.
  • Firmware Development:
  • Design and develop software for embedded systems, considering hardware limitations and performance needs.
  • Implement modules using C/C++.
  • Write device drivers and interface with peripherals like sensors and actuators.
  • Use real-time operating systems (RTOS) for timing and task scheduling.
  • Prototyping and Testing:
  • Perform electrical, functional, and environmental tests on prototypes.
  • Use debugging tools to resolve software and hardware issues.
  • Verify timing constraints are met.
  • Integration and Validation:
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration.
  • Work with cross-functional teams on specifications and timelines.
  • Document designs, code comments, and test reports.
  • Execute system-level validation to confirm performance meets requirements.

Benefits
