Peraton is seeking a Systems Architect SME to lead the design and integration of complex, mission-critical systems supporting the National Airspace System. In this strategic role, you will guide enterprise-level architecture decisions across telecommunications, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and application domains. You will define target-state architectures, influence modernization strategies, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with federal standards. Your expertise will directly impact the performance, reliability, and long-term sustainability of systems that support safe and efficient air travel across the United States. Work Location: This position will work on site in the DC Metro area. Once operations are fully established, we will consider telework options however, this is not guaranteed.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years’ experience or Masters degree and 10 years’ experience or Associate’s degree and 14 years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years’ experience.
  • Systems architecture experience supporting complex environments.
  • Proven experience leading architecture reviews and enterprise-level solution design.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle processes (requirements, design, integration, verification, validation).
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, DoDAF, or equivalent methodologies.
  • Experience integrating telecommunications, networking, and cloud systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and modernization initiatives (e.g., NextGen).
  • Certifications: TOGAF or cloud architecture certs preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights.
  • Proven experience designing efficient workflows.
  • Expertise in managing and optimizing processes for compliance and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Leads enterprise-level system architecture for integrated telecom and IT environments.
  • Defines technical baselines, interfaces, and modernization strategies.
  • Guides engineering teams and advises leadership on architecture trade-offs.
  • Develop and maintain target-state architecture roadmaps aligned with mission priorities.
  • Guide cross-domain integration across telecommunications, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, and applications.
  • Ensure compliance with federal standards, regulatory requirements, and security frameworks.
  • Identify architectural risks and develop mitigation strategies to reduce technical debt and complexity.
  • Mentor systems engineers and architects to promote consistency and architectural discipline.
