About The Position

The Mainframe ISV Associate is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing independent software vendor products on the z/OS mainframe platform. This role involves collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and customers to ensure reliable operation, compliance, and integration of ISV solutions within Walmart's mainframe environment. The Independent Software Vendor (ISV) team manages critical third-party software essential for operations, security, data handling, scheduling, and connectivity. They oversee software setup, configuration, upgrades, and vendor support, ensuring consistent implementation aligned with enterprise standards. The team focuses on risk reduction by clarifying ownership, enforcing access controls, maintaining documentation, and meeting security and compliance requirements. Acting as a liaison among engineering, security, audit, and vendors, the ISV team enhances issue resolution, proactively addresses vulnerabilities, and supports audit readiness. Their work ensures stable, secure, and reliable software that protects critical systems and supports uninterrupted enterprise operations.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with infrastructure maintenance and performance monitoring.
  • Strong coding skills adhering to industry standards, with knowledge of languages such as JCL, REXX, Python, SQL, etc.
  • Expertise in configuration, version, and release management processes.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve technical issues independently for moderately complex projects.
  • Knowledge of middleware integration and API-level connectivity across platforms.
  • Understanding of infrastructure design principles, including scalability, disaster recovery, and security frameworks.
  • Proven vendor management or ISV tool lifecycle experience (onboarding, upgrades, licensing, decommissioning).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and incident response skills; able to drive cross‑team coordination.
  • Familiarity with mainframe security, access control, and change management standards.
  • Experience with z/OS mainframe environments and ISV products.
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with vendors and internal teams.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, information technology, or related area and 2 years’experience in technology infrastructure engineering across areas such as compute, storage, network, mobility or virtualization-related technologies.
  • Option 2: 3 years’ experience in technology infrastructure engineering across areas such as compute, storage, network, mobility or virtualization relatedtechnologies.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain ISV products on z/OS mainframe systems.
  • Support configuration, version control, and integration management to maintain system stability and seamless application connectivity.
  • Analyze and resolve technical issues, escalating as necessary while documenting solutions and improvements.
  • Manage onboarding, configuration, and upgrades of third-party software.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and coordinate vendor support and licensing.
  • Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and audit requirements, coordinate remediation of vulnerabilities.
  • Provide cross-team coordination, resolve issues and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot ISV software, collaborating with vendors and internal support teams for resolution.
  • Ensure ISV products comply with Walmart's security, change management, and risk control standards, including formal request and approval processes for access provisioning and deprovisioning.
  • Participate in quarterly access reviews and implement access modifications as required.
  • Assist with change management processes, including testing, approval, and migration of ISV software.
