About The Position

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) works to build on strengths of families and communities to keep children and vulnerable adults safe, so they thrive. We do this through investigations, services, and referrals. DFPS is seeking an Automated Testing Lead responsible for designing, implementing, and managing automated testing strategies across multiple projects. This role will lead efforts to ensure software quality through automation, working closely with business stakeholders, developers, and QA teams throughout the Software Development Lifecycle. The Automated Testing Lead will define automation frameworks, select tools, and establish best practices for test automation, while mentoring team members and driving continuous improvement. The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality solutions efficiently.Adheres to all Texas Department of Family and Protective Services HR policies and performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of automated testing tools and frameworks, specifically Selenium WebDriver.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and experience with automation frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Azure DevOps) and Bitbucket repository management.
  • Knowledge of performance and load testing tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to mentor and coach team members on automation practices.
  • 5 years of experience in software testing, including at least 3 years in automated testing.
  • 2 years of experience leading automation efforts or managing QA teams.
  • Experience with Selenium WebDriver and Java-based automation frameworks.
  • Experience in integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and managing code repositories (Bitbucket).
  • Fully completed job application.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred knowledge of accessibility testing and compliance standards (Section 508, ADA).
  • Certifications in test automation or QA (e.g., ISTQB Advanced Test Automation Engineer).
  • Experience with accessibility testing (Section 508/ADA).
  • Experience with DFPS applications or similar enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with performance testing and monitoring tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of automated testing frameworks and strategies for multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and QA teams to ensure test automation aligns with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Define and maintain automation standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Select and manage automation tools and technologies to support functional, regression, and performance testing.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery.
  • Provide mentoring and training to team members on automation tools, scripting, and methodologies.
  • Monitor and report on automation coverage, test results, and quality metrics.
  • Troubleshoot automation issues and implement solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance testing effectiveness and reduce manual effort.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely delivery of automated testing solutions.
