About The Position

Akima Systems Engineering is seeking a Systems Administrator to support mission-critical operations at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment, rapid decision-making, and disciplined task management to ensure the continuous availability, security, and performance of enterprise IT systems supporting USARCENT G6 operations. The Systems Administrator will install, configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux server environments, virtualized infrastructure, and associated applications across NIPRNET and SIPRNET enclaves. Responsibilities include user account management, system patching, backup and recovery operations, performance monitoring, and resolution of Tier II/III incidents in accordance with established SLAs and ITIL-aligned processes. The place of performance for this role is 100% on-site at USARCENT G6, Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, SC.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a system administrator.
  • Minimum IAT Level II CompTIA Security+CE or higher-level IAT certified with CE.
  • Active Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, and maintain (O&M) Government-purchased software, hardware, servers, operating systems, and applications.
  • Provide O&M, monitoring, and administrative support for classified (SIPRNET), unclassified (NIPRNET), and up to three additional networks (e.g., CPN-X, BICES).
  • Perform daily maintenance and operations support for managed systems, RCC-SWA remotely administered servers, and local servers supporting USARCENT personnel.
  • Ensure all physical and virtual servers remain in IA compliance; perform OS installation/configuration, patch management, health monitoring, backup/restoration, and antivirus updates per Army and DISA standards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and logical diagrams for the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) on SIPRNET and NIPRNET, ensuring compliance with DISA STIGs.
  • Monitor and implement compliance with NETCOM GCC, RCC-SWA, and vendor security patches, hotfixes, and Active Directory GPO directives.
  • Administer and maintain Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure, including arrays, appliances, and fiber-channel switches.
  • Maintain all networked system hardware and software (servers, routers, switches, load balancers, security devices, backup systems).
  • Conduct and manage backup and archiving operations per DoDI 8500.2 and NIST SP 800-53; maintain one year of weekly and three months of daily backups.
  • Establish and manage network/server monitoring programs aligned with RCC-SWA NETOPS capabilities using approved tools (e.g., ACAS, SolarWinds).
  • Coordinate with USARCENT G-6 leadership and COR before making network changes or upgrades.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance; respond on-site within two hours for outages impacting 10+ users or Command Group systems.
  • Evaluate and remediate security risks; maintain compliance with all applicable STIGs.
  • Support hardware/software disposal, sanitization, and archiving per system security plans.
  • Coordinate installation, testing, and upgrades of Government-purchased network hardware/software in compliance with approved product lists.
  • Develop and implement access control lists (ACLs) on routers, firewalls, and IDS; maintain permissions within Access Control Server for CNDSP and administrators.
  • Utilize SCCM and IA tools to push IAVAs/IAVBs/IATTs patches; ensure compliance within 72 hours (or 30 days if unspecified); conduct ACAS/Nessus scans and report compliance to CNDSP.
  • Maintain all USARCENT IT assets in Army-directed systems of record (e.g., eMASS).
  • Install, configure, and manage CAC-enabled printers, scanners, and multifunction devices.
  • Provide Tier II Service Desk and desk-side support per SLA timelines in Technical Exhibit 2.
  • Create and maintain baseline workstation images for NIPRNET, SIPRNET, and up to three additional networks; ensure STIG compliance and user account management.
  • Install, operate, and maintain SWA Domain Controllers; manage GPOs, DNS, and replication with RCC-SWA coordination.
  • Provide security authentication and access control for all database servers.
  • Administer SQL databases and manage all USARCENT SQL requirements.
  • Support systems administration for NIPRNET and SIPRNET physical/virtual SQL clusters.
  • Maintain and test the SQL Disaster Recovery Plan; perform regular backups and restores.
  • Enforce RMF policies through security baselines and continuous monitoring.
  • Ensure SQL servers remain current with the latest Microsoft security patches and updates.
