About The Position

The Systems Administrator Messaging is responsible for the administration, maintenance, optimization, and evolution of the organization’s email and messaging platforms. This role supports critical messaging infrastructure including Microsoft Exchange Server, Exchange Online (Microsoft 365), and Proofpoint. This position balances operational support with a strong emphasis on strategic initiatives, including messaging platform modernization, automation, and continuous improvement. Operating under general direction, the role serves as a subject matter expert, partnering effectively with stakeholders across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft Exchange Server (on-premises and hybrid) and Exchange Online environments.
  • Ensure the availability, performance, reliability, and security of enterprise messaging systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex messaging issues, performing root cause analysis and driving incidents through resolution.
  • Support and contribute to strategic initiatives in the messaging space, including system improvements, upgrades, and platform enhancements.
  • Administer and support Proofpoint email security solutions, including: o TRAP (Threat Response Auto Pull) o TAP (Targeted Attack Protection) o EFD (Email Fraud Defense) o SER (Security Education / Awareness) o POD (Proofpoint On Demand)
  • Configure, tune, and maintain policies to improve threat detection, reduce false positives, and strengthen the organization’s email security posture.
  • Investigate and respond to email-based security incidents in coordination with security and incident response teams.
  • Participate in and contribute to messaging-related projects and strategic initiatives, including cloud, hybrid, and security improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation within messaging operations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for messaging-related initiatives and consultations across IT.
  • Develop and maintain automation and scripting solutions to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.
  • Utilize PowerShell and other scripting or coding technologies to automate administrative tasks, reporting, and remediation.
  • Integrate automation into operational workflows, monitoring, and support processes.
  • Participate in a shared on-call rotation to support critical messaging systems
