About The Position

The Systems Administrator – Backup & Data Storage is initially responsible for the design, implementation, and stabilization of enterprise backup, recovery, and data storage platforms across on‑premises and cloud environments. During the first phase of the role (approximately the initial six months), the primary focus will be standing up, improving, and operationalizing backup, disaster recovery, and storage capabilities to ensure the availability, integrity, security, and recoverability of business‑critical data. As the backup and data protection environment matures, this role will progressively transition into a broader Systems Administrator function, with continued ownership of backup and storage platforms while assuming expanded responsibility for core server, virtualization, and infrastructure services. This position plays a key role in data protection strategy, disaster recovery readiness, infrastructure reliability, and ongoing systems operations. The Systems Administrator works closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver resilient, well‑documented, and supportable systems that meet operational and recovery objectives.

Requirements

  • Experience administering enterprise backup and recovery solutions (virtual, physical, and cloud workloads).
  • Strong understanding of backup and disaster recovery concepts including RPO/RTO, retention, immutability, and recovery testing.
  • Experience managing SAN/NAS storage platforms and virtualization‑integrated storage.
  • Solid experience with Windows Server administration and enterprise systems operations.
  • Experience supporting Hyper‑V and/or VMware virtualization platforms.
  • Experience using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and operational discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and stabilize enterprise backup and recovery solutions for virtual, physical, and cloud workloads.
  • Define and enforce backup policies, schedules, retention, and immutability aligned with business and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor backup operations, troubleshoot failures, and ensure consistent job success and data integrity.
  • Manage backup repositories, deduplication storage, off‑site copies, and immutable backup configurations.
  • Perform regular backup validation, test restores, and recovery verification.
  • Develop disaster recovery plans, documentation, and participate in scheduled DR testing exercises.
  • Support incident response related to data loss, corruption, or ransomware events.
  • Administer enterprise storage platforms, including SAN/NAS systems and hypervisor‑integrated storage.
  • Provision, maintain, and optimize storage for server, application, and backup workloads.
  • Monitor storage capacity, performance, and growth trends; perform capacity planning and forecasting.
  • Manage storage snapshots, replication, tiering, and performance optimization.
  • Support storage hardware lifecycle management, firmware upgrades, and refresh initiatives.
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and support Windows Server and Linux Server systems in a production environment.
  • Administer and support virtualization platforms, including Hyper‑V and VMware.
  • Perform server provisioning, patching, upgrades, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Ensure backup and recovery integration remains aligned with evolving server and virtualization workloads.
  • Support workloads hosted in Microsoft Azure and hybrid environments.
  • Manage and support backup and recovery for cloud and hybrid systems.
  • Assist with hybrid infrastructure design and operational support across on‑premises and cloud platforms.
  • Develop and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Batch) to automate monitoring, reporting, validation, and administrative tasks.
  • Create and maintain dashboards and reports for backup health, storage utilization, server performance, and recovery readiness.
  • Proactively identify operational risks related to capacity, performance, security, and recovery objectives (RPO/RTO).
  • Ensure systems, backup, and storage configurations align with organizational security standards.
  • Support role‑based access control, encryption, audit logging, and immutable backup practices.
  • Assist with compliance initiatives related to data retention, protection, and infrastructure operations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for backup architectures, recovery procedures, storage, and systems configurations.
  • Create and update runbooks for backup failures, restore requests, server issues, and disaster recovery scenarios.
  • Ensure all activities follow established change management, security, and operational processes.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams across evolving responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with vendors for backup, storage, server, and infrastructure platforms.
  • Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer, and operational support to IT staff.
