About The Position

Since 1946, the Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) has delivered benefits to millions of Veterans enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare system, the largest Healthcare system in the United States. VCS is a program office in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) that is Veteran-facing, providing reasonably priced goods and services for the comfort and well-being of America’s Veterans. The VCS Central Office, located at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center in St. Louis, MO, is conducting a recruitment search for a Systems Accountant in its Finance Center. In this role, you will report to the Chief Accountant and play a critical role in the operations of the Finance Center.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Systems Management & Optimization: Lead the administration, enhancement, and continuous improvement of financial systems, applications, and business processes to ensure efficiency, functionality, and data integrity.
  • Compliance, Internal Controls & Audit Support: Ensure financial transactions, systems, and reporting comply with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards, and support internal controls, audits, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Financial Reporting & Closing Operations: Support accurate and timely financial reporting by assisting with monthly and annual close activities, reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial data accuracy.
  • System Development, Data Management & SQL Support: Develop and maintain databases, reports, and system solutions using SQL and related tools to improve reporting capabilities, data organization, and operational performance.
  • System Implementation, Training & User Support: Coordinate system upgrades, testing, and implementations while providing training, technical guidance, and ongoing support to financial system users.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Vendor Coordination: Partner with internal departments, external vendors, and service providers to resolve system issues, improve integrations, and enhance overall business operations.
  • Additional Responsibilities & Flexibility: Perform and adapt to additional responsibilities as needed.
