This highly skilled position is responsible for the start-up testing and maintenance activities related to substation and system protection equipment. The role involves installing, commissioning, maintaining, and testing a wide array of electrical and electronic equipment found in substations and power plants, including protective relays, various telemetering systems, power-line carrier equipment, fiber optic and metallic cables, transducers, digital fault recorders, substation local area networks (LANs), PLCs, CPUs, remote terminal units, and communication circuits. Additionally, the System Technician will commission, maintain, and test current transformers, coupling capacitors, and control cables. Administrative duties include preparing and maintaining equipment test and maintenance records, keeping operating records, and preparing purchase authorizations. The technician will also conduct special tests for the operation, maintenance, and design of electrical equipment and systems, work on customer equipment for non-commodity projects, and train fellow employees. The role requires a willingness to work long overtime hours to ensure continuity of service during emergencies.
