About The Position

The System Safety Engineer, Subject Matter Expert will support the space program located in Houston, Texas. This position is focused on systems safety requirements and safety hazard analyses and reporting. The role involves evaluating human-rated hardware and software systems for mission success, preparing various hazard analyses and reports, and participating in design reviews and technical meetings. The engineer will also support the development and updating of System Safety documents, review test procedures, and assist in maintaining a Hazard Tracking System. This position requires interfacing with multiple disciplines including Reliability Engineering, Software Safety, Quality Engineering, Flight Operations, Logistics & Maintenance, and Subsystem Engineering personnel. Requirements

  • US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of engineering
  • 10+ years of recent and related work experience
  • Experience in human spaceflight programs and systems/subsystems
  • Experience working in systems safety working groups - SSWG, WSESRB, SSSTRP, etc.
  • Experience building and communicating a safety case for re-design/risk acceptance
  • Requirements management and development experience, to include DOORS and/or CRADL
  • Ability to interface with customer and program management
  • Ability to pass a national agency check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS
  • Team player with strong work ethics and culture oriented
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives
  • Organized with good time management skills
  • Able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate human-rated hardware and software systems ensuring mission success
  • Prepare and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR)
  • Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings
  • Support the development and updating of System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements
  • Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards and their mitigation strategy for the program
  • Interface with multiple disciplines, including Reliability Engineering, Software Safety, Quality Engineering, Flight Operations, Logistics & Maintenance, and Subsystem Engineering personnel
  • Other duties as assigned
