About The Position

The System Safety Engineer, Subject Matter Expert will support the space program located in Littleton/ Waterton, Colorado . This position is focused on safety requirements and safety hazard analysis. This position has been posted at multiple levels (must meet minimum level indicated). Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised. This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.

Requirements

• Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering.
• Must have 6+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Must have experience working in systems safety working groups - SSWG, WSESRB, SSSTRP, etc.
• Experience building and communicating a safety case for re-design/risk acceptance.
• Must have requirements management and development experience, to include DOORS.
• Ability to interface with customer and program management.
• Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

• Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
• Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
• Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
• All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check and some positions require clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.
• All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate hardware and software ensuring mission success.
• Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
• Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings.
• Support the development and updating of System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements.
• Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements.
• Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards and their mitigation strategy for the program.
• This position will help support some IRAD/Capture Activities
• This position has potential to support various software safety activities.
• Be a vocal safety leader and provide feedback. and status to customers/program on safety status.
• Other duties as assigned.
